Task
Task 1A
In this task, we are instructed to design a character based on the character description (Age, Gender, Weight, Attitude, Personality) from Film Studies and Cinematography class. The character should reflect his or her personality in the story and be visually appealing to the targeted audience.
We are to submit three sheets :
- A turnaround sheet (front, side, back and perspective)
- Pose sheet (Various poses in different emotion) - 5 poses
- Character facial expressions - 5 expressions
Study the references on the design elements application such as:
Shape language
Example: The character's shape language should reflect her personality, with soft and curved shapes to convey kindness and rounded edges to suggest insecurities. The shape language can also include angular shapes to convey determination and strength.
Proportion
Example: The character's proportions should be proportionate to the age and gender, with emphasis on her eyes and facial features to convey emotions and expressions.
Silhouette
Example: The character's silhouette should be distinctive and easily recognizable, with a clear and readable design that stands out from the background and other characters in the scene.
Line of action
Example: The character's line of action should convey movement and personality, with dynamic poses that suggest the character’s attitude.
Colour
Example: The character's colour scheme should be vibrant and appealing, with warm colours and cool colours to convey certain meaning.
References
The character I made for the story for film studies and cinematography are inspired by a few animations. Its inspired by the main character from the rise of guardian and over the garden wall as well as from a game called Identity V. I liked the concept of having a cape/ cloak so I wanted to use these as references.

- Jack Frost's design incorporates a significant number of sharp and angular shapes. His frosty hair, staff, and even his clothes often feature pointed edges. This gives him a dynamic and edgy appearance, aligning with the icy and mischievous nature of his character.
- Wirt's overall posture is slouched and hunched, with rounded shoulders and a slightly downward gaze. This communicates a sense of introversion, uncertainty, and a lack of confidence. His physical shape reflects his internal struggles and the challenges he faces throughout the series.
2. Proportion
- Jack Frost has a slender and athletic build, emphasizing agility and grace. His limbs are long and well-defined, contributing to his agile and nimble demeanor. This choice in proportions reinforces his role as a character associated with winter sports and swift movements.
- Wirt is characterized by tall and skinny proportions, with long limbs and a slender frame. This contributes to his awkward and somewhat ungainly appearance, emphasizing his adolescent stage and the sense of vulnerability that comes with it.
3. Silhouette
- Jack Frost often has a flowing cape or cloak that adds visual interest to his silhouette. The dynamic shape of the cape contributes to the overall sense of movement and complements the character's airborne and free-spirited nature.
- Wirt's outfit includes a pointed hat and a long, flowing cloak. The pointed hat adds an element of whimsy to his silhouette, while the cloak gives him a somewhat mysterious and fantastical quality. These elements tie into the show's fairy tale-like setting.
4. Line of action
- Jack Frost's design incorporates flowing and dynamic lines, particularly evident in his wind-swept hair and the swirling patterns on his clothing. These lines convey a sense of movement and freedom, symbolizing the unpredictable nature of frost and winter winds.
- Wirt's line of action is often characterized by a slouched and hunched curve. This reflects his introverted and uncertain nature. The line of action communicates a sense of vulnerability and hesitation, emphasizing the challenges he faces on his journey.
5. Colour
- The color palette of Jack Frost is dominated by cool blues and whites, representing ice and snow. These colors not only reflect his elemental affiliation but also contribute to the overall sense of coldness and frostiness.
- Wirt's color palette is generally neutral, featuring earthy tones and subdued colors. This understated color scheme reflects his reserved and introspective personality, as well as the autumnal, melancholic atmosphere of the series.

For the posture, I wanted to play around with his cloak so I made a few poses to show the flowlines of his cloak while he's doing some action.

Task 1B
I wanted to show that my character lives in an enchanted forest so the place he stays in is a cottage surrounded by nature. So I searched up some examples that I can use on Pinterest.

I begin the process by sketching out the shape of the house and some of the important areas that I wanted to add such as the trees and path.

With the sketch done, I coloured it. I wanted it to look bright and soft to have a contrast to my character's personality while also making it have a sense of harmony with my character's role as the forest guardian.
